Participation Information - Workshops
After the championship a stage fencing workshop will be held on Sunday, 13.09.2009, in the sports hall of the OSC Berlin.
Subject: Stage fighting technique with the 17th century rapier (cut-and-thrust fencing) and 18th century smallsword (thrust fencing), general principles for fight choreography, the construction of a fight scene
The workshop is divided into two parts. Every part will be offered twice.
Part 1: smallsword (3 hours)
Teacher: Jacques Cappelle (Belgien), Certified "Maître d'Armes" by the "Académie Royale d'Armes de Belgique", Certified "Honorary Fight Master" by "Fight Directors Canada"
Part 2: Close combat in a rapier fight (3 hours)
Teacher: Kristoffer Jørgensen (Norway), Teacher of the Nordic Stage Fight
Society and president of the Norwegian Academy of Artistic Fencing, World Champion in stage fencing 2008
Level: Intermediate to advanced (fencing basics recommended like foot work, parades, cutting and thrusting
Maximum Number of participants: 40 (The participants will be split up in two groups with at maximum 20 persons)
When: 13.9.2009, 10 - 17 o’clock
group 1: 10 until 13 o'clock part 1, 14 until 17 o'clock part 2
group 2: 10 until 13 o'clock part 2, 14 until 17 o'clock part 1

Costs: one part 20 EUR, both parts 40 EUR (members of the German Academy of Fencing pay 18 EUR for one part or 36 EUR for both parts)
Further details: Arms for exercising (foils, sabres, rapiers) are available, but can be brought with one. Moreover, you have to bring sportswear and gym shoes with you. It is recommended to bring leathergloves with one. The minimum age for participation is 16. The lessons will be held in English. But this should not be an obstacle to participate. Normally, there were no problems at workshops in English in the past and if there are any difficulties of comprehension, we will be pleased to translate.
